Privacy Policy

Last updated: 12/15/2024

Thank you for choosing our Chrome extension. Your trust is important to us, and we are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information our extension collects, how we use and share that information, how we maintain compliance with the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy, and the choices you have regarding your personal data. By using our extension, you agree to the terms and conditions of this Privacy Policy.

1. Scope and CJIS Compliance

This Privacy Policy applies to information collected through our Chrome extension, including any Criminal Justice Information (CJI) that may be processed in accordance with the FBI CJIS Security Policy. We adhere to all applicable CJIS Security Policy requirements to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of any CJI we handle.

1.1 CJIS Data Handling

If our extension processes or interacts with data subject to CJIS requirements, we employ administrative, physical, and technical safeguards designed to comply with CJIS Security Policy standards. These measures include, but are not limited to:

  • Encryption of CJI in transit and at rest using industry-standard cryptographic protocols approved by CJIS.
  • Strict access controls, including role-based access and multi-factor authentication, ensuring that only authorized individuals with the required security clearances can access CJI.
  • Audit and logging mechanisms to track access and modifications to CJI for security monitoring and compliance reporting.
  • Regular security training for authorized personnel and adherence to incident response protocols if a security event occurs.

2. Information We Collect

We may collect and process various types of information to deliver and improve our extension's functionality. The collection and use of such information is strictly limited to what is necessary to operate and enhance the user experience, and to meet CJIS compliance obligations when CJI is involved.

2.1 Data from Permissions Used

  • Storage: We use the storage permission to save settings, user preferences, and other configuration data locally within your browser. This may include information such as custom settings or user-generated content that you intentionally provide. We do not access unrelated files on your device. Any CJI stored locally is protected with CJIS-compliant encryption and is only retained as long as necessary.
  • Tabs: The tabs permission allows our extension to read and interact with the currently open tabs in your browser. This may include collecting non-personally identifiable information such as the URLs of tabs to perform the extension's intended functionality. We do not collect personally identifiable information through this permission, nor do we track your browsing habits beyond what is necessary for the extension's core features.
  • Cookies: With the cookies permission, we may read and write cookies associated with websites you visit to support certain functionalities (e.g., session persistence or personalization features). We do not use cookies to track you across sites for advertising or any other unauthorized purpose. If cookies contain or reference CJI, we will implement appropriate safeguards as required by CJIS.
  • WebRequest: The webRequest permission enables the extension to view and potentially modify network requests. We use this capability only for the stated functionality of our extension, such as blocking unwanted requests, enhancing security, or modifying content for a better user experience. We do not log your browsing history or personally identifiable information. Any data accessed is processed in real-time, not stored unless necessary, and if such data constitutes CJI, it is handled under CJIS Security Policy compliance.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

  • Deliver the core features and functionalities of the extension.
  • Improve, maintain, and enhance the user experience.
  • Fix bugs, troubleshoot issues, and analyze performance metrics.

We do not use collected data for purposes unrelated to the core functionality of the extension. We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not collect data for advertising or marketing purposes.

If CJI is processed, it is only used for lawful purposes consistent with the CJIS Security Policy and applicable regulations.

4. How We Share Your Information

We take your privacy seriously and share information only as necessary and as described below:

  • Service Providers: We may engage trusted third-party service providers to assist with specific operations, such as hosting or analytics. These service providers are contractually obligated to handle your data, including any CJI, in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy and CJIS Security Policy requirements. They are not permitted to use your data for any other purposes.
  • Legal Compliance and Safety: We may disclose your information if required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or if we believe doing so is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or others. Any disclosure of CJI will strictly follow CJIS Security Policy and applicable laws.

Beyond the above exceptions, we do not share your personal data or CJI with third parties.

5. Data Retention and Security

We retain your information only for as long as it is necessary to provide our services or as required by applicable laws and CJIS Security Policy. We employ reasonable security measures—including CJIS-compliant encryption, access controls, and network monitoring—to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.

While no method of transmission or electronic storage is entirely secure, we continuously review and update our security practices to maintain compliance with CJIS requirements and to reduce the risk of unauthorized access or disclosure.

6. Your Choices and Rights

  • Cookies: Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings preferences. If you choose to disable cookies, some features of the extension may not function properly.
  • Uninstallation: You may uninstall the extension at any time. Doing so will remove all extension-related local data (including any CJI) stored in your browser's storage, subject to any legal or regulatory retention requirements.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, CJIS Security Policy updates, or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. If we make significant changes, we will notify you by displaying a prominent notice within the extension or by other appropriate means. Your continued use of the extension following the posting of changes constitutes acceptance of those changes.
